GDS Partners are recruiting for an experienced SHEQ Manager to join an established Civil Engineering Contractor specialising in roadways and associated civil engineering works.
The successful candidate will be primarily based from the company’s main office in Kent, with regular travel to live projects throughout Kent and London.
This is a key position within the business, combining hands-on site Health & Safety responsibilities with the management and continuous improvement of the company’s SHEQ systems. A significant part of the role will involve auditing and compliance, and candidates must have a recognised Auditor qualification along with previous experience dealing with BSI audits.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain the company’s SHEQ management systems, policies, procedures and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with relevant Health & Safety, environmental and quality legislation and industry standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits across civil engineering projects throughout Kent and London.
- Coordinate and support internal and external audits, including BSI audits.
- Manage audit findings, non-conformances and corrective actions through to satisfactory close-out.
- Review and support the preparation of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Provide practical Health & Safety advice and guidance to project managers, site teams and senior management.
- Monitor site compliance and promote consistently high SHEQ standards across all projects.
- Support accident, incident and near-miss investigations and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
- Maintain accurate SHEQ records, reports and performance documentation.
- Deliver Health & Safety briefings and toolbox talks where required.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, auditors and other relevant stakeholders.
- Support the continued development and improvement of the company’s overall SHEQ culture and performance.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience within Health & Safety / SHEQ.
- NEBOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
- Recognised Auditor qualification – essential.
- Previous experience dealing with BSI audits – essential.
- Strong knowledge of SHEQ management systems, auditing and compliance.
- Strong site-based Health & Safety experience.
- Previous experience within civil engineering, highways, roadways or infrastructure is highly desirable.
- Good working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and industry best practice.
- Strong IT, reporting and documentation skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider project team.
- Full UK Driving Licence – essential.
Package
- £55,000 – £60,000 per annum
