Health & Safety Manager - Main Contractor - London

About the Role

GDS Partners are recruiting for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to join a growing Main Contractor operating across a diverse portfolio of construction projects throughout London.

The company delivers projects across residential, commercial, educational, healthcare, public works, and sport & leisure sectors, and is looking for an experienced Health & Safety professional who can combine strategic office-based responsibilities with a strong site presence.

This is a key position within the business, based at the company’s London City Centre office, with regular travel to live projects across London. The successful candidate will also manage and support a team of Health & Safety Advisors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage Health & Safety across multiple construction projects throughout London.
  • Manage and support a team of Health & Safety Advisors, ensuring consistent standards across all sites.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews.
  • Provide practical Health & Safety advice and guidance to project teams, site management and senior leadership.
  • Review and develop Health & Safety policies, procedures, RAMS and associated documentation.
  • Ensure all projects remain compliant with current UK Health & Safety legislation and company standards.
  • Lead on accident, incident and near-miss investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Monitor Health & Safety performance and provide clear reporting and recommendations to senior management.
  • Support the ongoing development of a positive and proactive Health & Safety culture across the business.
  • Maintain a strong presence on site while also managing office-based Health & Safety responsibilities.
Requirements
  • 5+ years’ experience in construction Health & Safety.
  • Relevant Health & Safety qualification, such as NEBOSH, NVQ or equivalent.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and construction regulations.
  • Previous experience working across multiple live construction projects.
  • Experience managing or mentoring Health & Safety Advisors is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication, leadership and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Comfortable balancing office-based responsibilities with a hands-on, boots-on-the-ground approach.
  • Main Contractor experience would be highly advantageous.
